Yekaterina Didenko Dry Ice Death
3 people died and others were injured when about 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of dry ice was poured into a swimming pool at the 29th birthday party of Instagram influencer Yekaterina Didenko in Moscow.
Yekaterina Didenko’s husband, Valentin Didenko, unloaded the dry ice to dazzle guests with the smokey vapor but when he jumped in to cool down after a steamy sauna session, he stopped breathing and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 2 other victims who died are Natalia Monakova and Yuri Alferov were confirmed dead at the scene. They died from pulmonary edemas after breathing excessive carbon monoxide. 4 other victims who survived the disaster suffered poisoning and chemical burns. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the incident, according to the Moscow Times.
According to Mirror, Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide and produces heavy vapour when put into water. The vapour can cause high levels of carbon dioxide in the blood when released in a poorly ventilated space.
